Relative value examines a company's earnings yield and determines a price at which this implied return is competitive with another asset class (usually a bond.)

Intrinsic Value examines a company's potential for future profitability discounted by the cost of capital. The result of this calculation is the stock's "intrinsic" or underlying value. This should be the price a reasonable person would be willing to pay for the business.
